OKS-3074-A7-940 8MP 200 Degree Fisheye M12 Lens Case: Panoramic Imaging for Mego Data Acquisition Terminals

2026-10-23

Project Background

Mego is a data acquisition solution provider building multi-sensor terminals that collect high-resolution visual data in industrial plants, logistics hubs and outdoor monitoring sites. To expand its panoramic data acquisition capability, Mego required a compact wide-angle lens that could capture a full 360-degree field with a single sensor, while surviving dust, washdown and temperature extremes at the point of collection.

After a technical evaluation of several M12 lens suppliers, Mego selected the OKS-3074-A7-940 1.87mm F2.0 8MP 200-degree ultra-wide fisheye M12 lens as the optical front end for its next-generation data acquisition terminal.

Challenges at the Data Collection Stage

  • Limited coverage per node: the previous 120-degree lens required four cameras per collection station, increasing hardware cost, cabling and calibration workload.
  • Insufficient resolution: 2MP optics could not preserve detail at the edge of the frame after dewarping, weakening dataset quality for downstream analysis.
  • Night-time acquisition gaps: visible red glow from conventional IR illumination disturbed on-site operations and reduced usable night data.
  • Harsh environment reliability: dust ingress and high-pressure cleaning caused fogging and coating damage, leading to frequent field replacements.

Selected Optical Solution

The chosen lens combines an all-glass 6G+IR optical design with multi-layer AR coating, an F2.0 aperture and a 200-degree diagonal field of view. Its compact 18.43mm TTL barrel and standard M12 mount allowed Mego to keep the existing terminal housing and sensor board unchanged.

Parameter Specification
Model OKS-3074-A7-940
Focal Length 1.87mm
Aperture F2.0
Resolution 8MP
Field of View (1/2.8'') H: 175° / V: 100° / D: 200°
Lens Structure 6G + IR filter (940nm)
Waterproof Level IP69K
Mount M12
Relative Illumination 46%
Operating Temperature -40°C to +85°C

Implementation Process

  1. Optical matching: the 20.3° CRA and 6.8mm maximum image circle were verified against Mego's 1/2.8'' 8MP sensor to keep edge sharpness and colour consistency across the full frame.
  2. Mechanical integration: the 3.92mm flange back focal length and 4.41mm optical back focal length matched the existing holder, so no tooling change was required.
  3. Night acquisition tuning: the integrated 940nm IR filter was paired with Mego's 940nm illuminators, producing covert night capture with no visible red glow.
  4. Environmental validation: samples passed IP69K high-pressure washdown, thermal cycling from -40°C to +85°C, and long-duration vibration testing before mass deployment.

Project Results

Metric Before After
Cameras per collection station 4 units (120° lens) 1 unit (200° fisheye)
Frame coverage ~90° usable panorama 360° full panorama, no blind spot
Effective edge resolution 2MP class 8MP class
Night data usability Red glow interference Covert 940nm IR capture
Field replacement rate High (dust ingress) Low (IP69K sealed)

With a single 200-degree fisheye lens, each Mego data acquisition terminal now covers the entire inspection area. Site installation time was reduced because fewer units require mounting and calibration, and the resulting panoramic datasets retain sharp detail to the frame edge after dewarping.

Why This Lens Fits Data Acquisition Systems

  • One sensor, full scene: 200-degree diagonal coverage removes blind spots and simplifies multi-sensor synchronisation.
  • Detail-preserving optics: 8MP resolution with 46% relative illumination keeps brightness and clarity even in corner regions.
  • Reliable outdoors: IP69K waterproofing and a -40°C to +85°C range support ports, mines, construction sites and agricultural deployments.
  • Fast integration: standard M12 thread mount and compact 18.43mm TTL barrel fit existing camera modules and terminal enclosures.
  • Optimised night vision: 940nm IR filtration supports covert 24/7 data collection.

Conclusion

The OKS-3074-A7-940 fisheye M12 lens gave Mego a practical route from multi-camera data collection to a compact single-lens panoramic terminal, cutting hardware count while raising image quality and field reliability. The same optical platform is available for panoramic security cameras, industrial vision inspection, automotive surround view and outdoor monitoring projects.
